Ahead of the ILT20 final, Dubai Capitals’ star opener David Warner expressed his team’s strong determination to lift the trophy after an impressive campaign, which included three wins against their final opponents, the Desert Vipers.
As they prepare to face the Vipers once again in the title clash, Warner reflected on the team’s excitement and ambition. “Everyone’s excited—from the background staff to the GMR owners and, of course, the players on the field. We got so close last year, and hopefully, this time we can lift the trophy,” Warner said. Despite their previous victories over the Vipers, Warner remained cautious about the unpredictability of finals. “When you’ve beaten a team a few times, that’s the scary part. Sometimes momentum can shift. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen, and we can carry on our form,” he added. Warner also analyzed the Vipers’ squad, highlighting potential weaknesses that could play in the Capitals’ favor. “Their captain is dealing with a slight hamstring issue and might not play. Plus, they’ve lost Wanindu Hasaranga to international duty with Sri Lanka. They have a powerhouse batting lineup, so for us, the key will be taking early wickets and sticking to our bowling plans.” Fielding, he emphasized, has been a crucial factor in the Capitals’ success. “We’ve been playing good cricket, scoring well, and chasing targets effectively. Our bowling has been exceptional. Now, it’s about maintaining the right energy and attitude and ensuring we hit the ground running.” Warner also commended Afghan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib for his contributions throughout the tournament. “Gulbadin has grown from strength to strength. He’s adapted well to these slow and low wickets. He’s a big player for us, and with one more game to go, we’re hopeful of lifting that trophy.” When asked about Australia’s upcoming Champions Trophy campaign without key pacers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Warner remained confident in the team’s depth. “Australian players thrive in World Cups, Champions Trophies, and tournament play. No matter who’s in the squad, the team knows how to win and succeed.”
The ILT20 final between Dubai Capitals and Desert Vipers promises an electrifying finish to the tournament. The highly anticipated clash will be livestreamed at 7:30 PM IST on February 9, with both teams eyeing the prestigious title.
