Prithvi Shaw, who made his Test debut in December 2020, has shared the dressing room with some of Indian cricket’s biggest names, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
In a lighthearted anecdote, Shaw revealed how former captain Kohli pranked him during a match against England.
Recalling the incident on the ‘Focused Indian’ YouTube channel, Shaw said, “I was in the dressing room with Ash Bhai (Ravichandran Ashwin) and Mohammed Shami when someone got out. I wasn’t playing that match, and we couldn’t hear the ground noise from inside the dressing room. We were near the washroom when Virat Bhai walked in, stared at me, and asked, ‘What are you doing here? Do you know a wicket has fallen? Go check on the field!’”
Shaw, unaware of the lunch break, hurried to the ground, “We didn’t realize it was lunch because just 10 minutes earlier we were around the washroom. So I ran all the way to the field, only to find no one there. That’s when Virat Bhai laughed and said, ‘You don’t know lunch is on?’”
This playful moment echoes a famous story from Kohli’s own early days, where Yuvraj Singh and others pranked him by making him bow down to Sachin Tendulkar.
As Kohli became a senior in the team, he ensured the tradition continued, with Shaw becoming the latest victim.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli ended his Test century drought with an unbeaten 100 against Australia in Perth during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (2024-25). His 81st international century helped India secure a commanding 295-run win, giving them a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second Test is set to begin on December 6 in Adelaide.
