The Pakistan ODI Tri-Series is heating up with intense competition and dramatic moments. In the latest clash between Pakistan and South Africa, both teams are battling for a spot in the final on February 14 after suffering opening-game defeats to New Zealand in high-scoring encounters.
This marks the first match of the series at the National Stadium in Karachi, and so far, it’s been a run-fest, with South Africa posting a formidable 352, setting Pakistan a daunting chase to secure a final berth against the Blackcaps.
The first innings wasn’t just about the runs—it also saw some fiery exchanges. In the 39th over, tensions flared as South African batter Matthew Breetzke and Pakistan’s pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi clashed.
While completing a run, Breetzke inadvertently bumped into the towering 6’6″ pacer, leading to an intense face-off. Both players stood their ground until the umpire stepped in to diffuse the situation.
Despite the altercation, Breetzke delivered a solid knock of 83 off 84 balls before being dismissed by Khushdil Shah, thanks to a stunning catch by Salman Ali Agha in the covers.
Meanwhile, Afridi had a mixed outing—though he conceded runs, he picked up key wickets, removing Tony de Zorzi and Wiaan Mulder, finishing with figures of 2/66 in his 10 overs.
With a massive chase ahead, Pakistan will need a strong batting effort to keep their title hopes alive.
