In doing so, he achieved what legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rohit Sharma could not. Sarfaraz reached 221* off 253 balls, setting Mumbai’s highest individual score in the Irani Cup.
This remarkable innings surpassed Ramnath Parkar’s 194* in 1972 and Ajinkya Rahane’s 191 in 2010. Although Mumbai players like Ravi Shastri and Pravin Amre have also hit double centuries in the Irani Cup, they did so for the Rest of India (ROI) team.
Sarfaraz became the 11th overall double centurion in the Irani Cup and only the fourth to achieve this milestone without representing ROI.
Ending the day on 221*, Sarfaraz joined the ranks of top scorers in the Irani Cup, just behind Wasim Jaffer, Murali Vijay, Amre, and Surinder Amarnath.
His innings, alongside solid contributions from Ajinkya Rahane (97) and Tanush Kotian (64), pushed Mumbai to 536/9, placing them in a commanding position as they aim for their 15th Irani Cup title. This performance also strengthens Sarfaraz’s
