The India national cricket team secured a memorable seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the second and final Test in Kanpur. Led by Rohit Sharma, India achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first team in 147 years of Test cricket to score at a run rate above 7 in both innings of a match.
Despite only 35 overs being played in the first three days due to poor weather, India took control in the final two days. They bowled Bangladesh out for 233 in just a session and a half on Day 4. India then declared their first innings at 285/9 in less than 35 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 off 51) and Rohit Sharma (23) leading a blistering 55-run stand in just 3.5 overs.
Middle-order contributions from Shubman Gill (39), Virat Kohli (47), and KL Rahul (68) helped India achieve a record run rate of 8.22 in their innings. Heading into Day 5, India bowled out Bangladesh for 146 and chased down the 95-run target in just 18 overs, with Jaiswal top-scoring with 51 runs.
India’s combined run rate of 7.36 across both innings set a new all-time record in Test cricket, surpassing South Africa’s 6.80 in 2005. This victory also extended India’s streak of consecutive home series wins to 18, further solidifying their dominance in the format.
