Afghanistan’s star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has made history by overtaking West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket.
Rashid achieved this milestone during MI Cape Town’s Qualifier One clash against Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025 at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, on February 4.
With two wickets in the match, Rashid’s tally reached 633 wickets from 461 T20 games, surpassing Bravo’s 631 wickets from 582 matches.
The 26-year-old boasts an impressive bowling average of 18.07, with best figures of 6/17 and an economy rate of 6.49. He has also recorded four five-wicket hauls in the format.
Reflecting on his achievement, Rashid said, “It’s a great achievement. I never imagined this 10 years ago. It’s a proud feeling to be from Afghanistan and reach this level. DJ (Bravo) is one of the best T20 bowlers, and it’s an honor to top the table.”
Rashid also led MI Cape Town to a dominant 39-run win over Paarl Royals, securing a spot in the SA20 2025 final. Batting contributions from Ryan Rickelton, Rassie van der Dussen, Dewald Brevis, George Linde, and Delano Potgieter powered Cape Town to 199/4 in 20 overs.
In response, the Royals lost early wickets and couldn’t recover despite efforts from Dinesh Karthik and captain David Miller. They were bowled out for 160 in 19.4 overs but will get another shot at the final in Qualifier 2 on February 6, facing the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings.
