Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket following the conclusion of the third Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
The veteran spinner, who was included in the squad, played just one match in the series—a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval.
Recently, Ashwin’s social media post on ‘X’ caught the attention of fans but was interpreted in ways he likely did not intend. The former India spinner had tweeted a leadership mantra, stating, “Good leaders emerge when they show resolve for a scrap.”
The post sparked speculation among fans, with some hinting at Ashwin’s potential as a role model for star cricketers. However, Ashwin quickly clarified that his tweet was not aimed at players with fan clubs, dispelling any misunderstandings with a follow-up post.
While Ashwin has stepped away from international cricket, he will continue to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
After representing Rajasthan Royals until IPL 2024, he is set to return to his former team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for the IPL 2025 season. Expressing his excitement after being picked by CSK in the mega auction, Ashwin shared his enthusiasm about rejoining the team where his IPL journey began.
