The heated altercation between Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head during the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been addressed by the Indian pacer.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Siraj INR 8,85,340 (AUD 16,500) for his aggressive send-off directed at Head in Adelaide.
When asked about the penalty, Siraj appeared unfazed. “Yeah man, it’s all good. I am going to the gym now,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald. Notably, neither Siraj nor Jasprit Bumrah bowled during Tuesday’s net session, according to the same report.
Interestingly, Head later claimed he had said “well bowled” while returning to the pavilion, but Siraj denied this and confirmed no such remark was made. The two players have since resolved their differences after speaking directly with one another.
The ICC confirmed Siraj’s penalty under Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct, which pertains to inappropriate send-offs. Head also faced scrutiny, receiving a warning for breaching Article 2.13, which addresses verbal abuse during an international match. Unlike Siraj, Head escaped with only a formal reprimand and no financial penalty.
Both players were handed one demerit point each, their first disciplinary infraction in the past two years.
“Both admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle,” the ICC stated in its official release.
