India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah recently underwent detailed scans at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, with results expected within the next 24 hours. These findings will be pivotal in determining his availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Indian team management, including captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir, is eagerly awaiting clarity on Bumrah’s fitness.
According to a report, his scans and medical evaluation at the NCA will guide the next steps in his rehabilitation. The BCCI medical team is set to conduct a comprehensive assessment, with an official update expected by Saturday.
Additionally, Dr. Rowan Schouten, a New Zealand-based orthopedic surgeon who previously operated on Bumrah in 2023, is likely to be consulted once the reports are available. The selection committee will make a final decision on his participation in the Champions Trophy based on medical recommendations.
Bumrah sustained back spasms during the final Test of India’s recent tour of Australia, limiting his role in the crucial match. As a precaution, the BCCI opted to keep him out of the ongoing ODI series against England.
Initially, there was hope that he would recover in time for the third ODI, but his name was quietly removed from the squad without an official statement. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was added to the squad ahead of the series opener.
“Obviously, we are waiting on an update about his scan, which was due in the next few days. Once we get that, we will have more clarity on where he stands,” Rohit Sharma had said before the first ODI.
With the Champions Trophy set to begin on February 19, the Indian management is closely tracking Bumrah’s recovery. The deadline for finalizing the squad is February 12, making this medical evaluation crucial for India’s tournament preparations.
