With the 2025 Champions Trophy set to be held in Pakistan, concerns have arisen regarding the Indian team’s participation due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations.
Recently, the BCCI informed the ICC that India would not be traveling to Pakistan, given the strained relations.
During the T20I series against South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav was asked by a fan about the team’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. In response, Surya replied, “Brother, it’s not in our hands.” The clip of his reply quickly went viral on social media.
The situation mirrors previous instances, like in 2023, when India opted out of playing the Asia Cup in Pakistan, choosing a hybrid model where their games were held in Sri Lanka instead. Reflecting on India’s stance, former cricketer Aakash Chopra discussed the issue in a video on his YouTube channel.
“It is decided and confirmed that India won’t be traveling to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and it’s not the BCCI’s decision. The Indian cricket team has no role in this outcome. They can play against Pakistan at neutral venues or in India, but when it comes to competing in the neighboring country, the Indian government makes that call,” Chopra explained.
He added, “The BCCI informed the ICC that they don’t have permission to play in Pakistan. India is not going to Pakistan, and this decision stems from ongoing security and political concerns.”
