At one point, Ishan Kishan was a key member of India’s white-ball squad, playing a few games in the ODI World Cup 2023 in Shubman Gill’s absence. However, his circumstances shifted dramatically as he is no longer part of BCCI’s central contract.
During the 2023 South Africa tour, Kishan informed the management about his declining mental health, and he later skipped the Ranji Trophy, leading to his removal from the contract.
Kishan faced heavy criticism, especially for missing the Ranji Trophy while training with IPL captain Hardik Pandya in Baroda.
Reflecting on this, he noted that social media is often negative but can turn supportive once performance improves.
“Negativity will be there on social media,” he shared. “People will troll you if you don’t do well, and that’s normal. I feel every sportsperson should accept that…when you perform, the same people will praise you. That happened with Hardik too.”
Kishan emphasized the importance of staying neutral amidst online criticism and advised young cricketers to avoid social media distractions.
“You can’t control social media. Jo bhi chalega, it’s okay. I tell younger players to stay away from it,” he added.
