South Africa will face Ireland in the third ODI at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 7.
However, they’ll be without captain Temba Bavuma, who is sidelined with a soft tissue injury on his left elbow. Reeza Hendricks will replace Bavuma, and Rassie van der Dussen will lead the team in his absence.
Bavuma sustained the injury during the second ODI while diving to avoid a run-out. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed in a tweet, “Proteas Men’s One-Day International (ODI) captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the third ODI against Ireland due to a soft tissue injury on his left elbow… Bavuma will return home with the rest of the squad on Tuesday and will consult a specialist.”
Reeza Hendricks will join the squad, while all-rounder Wiaan Mulder has returned home for personal reasons.
South Africa currently leads the series 2-0 after securing dominant wins in the first two games, by 139 and 174 runs. Ireland, aiming for a consolation win, previously leveled the T20I series 1-1 with a ten-run victory in the second match. The final ODI will begin at 15:30 local time on Monday.
