India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has addressed rumors about potentially replacing Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain in the IPL.
Suryakumar and Pandya are key players for India, with Suryakumar excelling with the bat and Pandya as an all-rounder.
After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is, many expected Pandya to become captain.
However, BCCI chose Suryakumar. When MI replaced Rohit with Pandya, fans and experts were critical, especially after MI’s disappointing 2024 IPL season, where they finished at the bottom with 4 wins.
Asked about MI captaincy rumors at a press conference, Suryakumar joked, “Aapne googly daal diya (laughs). I’m really enjoying this role. When I played under Rohit bhai, I’d give my inputs. Baaki dekhte hain (laughs).”
On India’s squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh, he praised Mayank Yadav, saying, “He has the X-factor. He’s got extra pace and potential. He’s a great addition, and I think he’ll do well for the team.”
