Delhi Capitals have appointed former India international Munaf Patel as their new bowling coach for IPL 2025.
Last month, the franchise revamped their coaching panel, with Hemang Badani taking on the role of head coach and Venugopal Rao named as Director of Cricket.
Delhi officially confirmed Munaf’s appointment on November 12, though the 41-year-old first mentioned the news during UP20 2024.
Since retiring in 2018, Munaf has participated in various legends’ leagues, and this marks his first official coaching role. He faces a significant challenge as Delhi Capitals still seek their first IPL title.
Munaf previously won the IPL with the Mumbai Indians and also played for Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions. Across 63 IPL matches, he took 74 wickets at an economy rate of 7.51.
He now replaces James Hopes, as the franchise shifts toward Indian coaching staff for greater continuity with players.
Delhi has retained key players Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel for the upcoming season. Notably, they released captain Rishabh Pant ahead of the mega-auction, as they couldn’t reach an agreement with the India star. With two Right to Match (RTM) cards, Delhi could still aim to re-sign Pant at auction.
With INR 73 crore, the third-largest purse in the auction, Delhi Capitals hope to end their three-year playoff drought in the 2025 season.
