India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, praised the team’s fielding performance during the recent three-match ODI series against England, calling it “incredibly satisfying” to witness.
India secured a dominant 3-0 sweep in the ODIs and a 4-1 victory in the T20I series, heading into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with confidence.
With sharp catches, crucial run-outs, and athletic fielding, India outclassed Jos Buttler’s England side.
Reflecting on the team’s efforts, Dilip said in a BCCI video, “We created some spectacular opportunities. Whether it was cutting angles in the outfield, taking phenomenal catches, or executing crucial run-outs at key moments, it was a fantastic team effort.”
Dilip highlighted the pride the Indian squad takes in its fielding, emphasizing consistency and composure throughout the series. He also acknowledged standout performances from vice-captain Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and fast bowler Harshit Rana, who made significant contributions in the field.
“It was tough to pick the best fielder of the series. Harshit Rana saved over 10 runs across three ODIs and took a crucial running catch at mid-off. Shubman Gill also took an important flat catch in the second game,” Dilip noted.
However, he ultimately named Shreyas Iyer as the ‘Impact Fielder’ of the series, crediting his spectacular run-out of England opener Phil Salt in the first ODI in Nagpur.
“It’s not just about catches; it’s about saving crucial runs, cutting angles, and making those game-changing plays. England were blazing at 75 for no loss in the first game, and Shreyas’ run-out made a big impact,” Dilip concluded.
With sharp fielding complementing their strong performances, India looks poised to carry their momentum into the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
