India and Vidarbha batter Karun Nair is in sensational form, breaking records in domestic cricket and making a strong case for a spot in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
The 33-year-old has been dominating the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 752 runs in eight matches at an astonishing average of 752 and a strike rate of 125.96.
With five centuries and a fifty in seven innings, Nair is currently the tournament’s leading run-scorer and holds the record for the most runs scored without being dismissed in List A cricket.
Despite his impressive performances, Nair remains humble and focused on his dream of playing for India again.
Speaking about his motivation, Nair said, “The dream is always to play for the country. That’s the reason we play this game. The one and only goal has always been to represent India.”
Nair, who has played six Tests and two ODIs for India, scoring 374 runs at an average of 62.33 in Tests—including a historic triple-century—remains determined to earn another chance at the international level.
“This is my third comeback. I need to keep scoring runs in every single game. That’s all I can control,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey, Nair emphasized that persistence and hard work have been key to his resurgence.
“There’s no secret. It’s just years of hard work and persistence, taking each day as it comes, and respecting every innings I play,” he said.
Nair also opened up about overcoming challenges during periods of poor form.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t afraid. But I never thought my career was over. I just questioned where I was going and what I needed to do. I told myself to start from scratch, give it a few years, and see where it leads,” he shared.
With his current performances in domestic cricket, Nair has reignited hopes of an international comeback.
His consistency and mindset make him a strong contender for India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad. For now, Nair remains focused on one innings at a time, determined to make every opportunity count.
