Yograj Singh, a former Indian cricketer known for his controversial statements about legendary captains like Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, recently made a startling revelation about an incident involving Kapil.
Yograj disclosed that he once went to Kapil’s house with a pistol, intending to confront him for allegedly playing a role in his exclusion from the national team.
Yograj, who represented India in one Test and six ODIs, admitted that he had harbored intense resentment toward Kapil.
Speaking on Unfiltered by Samdish (via Indian Express), he said, “When Kapil Dev became captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me for no reason. My wife wanted me to confront him. I told her, ‘I’ll teach this man a lesson.’”
He continued, recounting the dramatic confrontation, “I took my pistol and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I hurled abuses at him and said, ‘Because of you, I’ve lost a friend. I should put a bullet through your head, but I won’t because of your pious mother standing here.’ That moment, I decided to give up cricket and vowed to make my son, Yuvraj Singh, a cricketer.”
Yograj also accused Kapil and Bishan Singh Bedi of conspiring against him, claiming they resented his close relationship with Sunil Gavaskar.
He alleged, “Bishan Singh Bedi, along with Kapil, plotted against me because I was close to Gavaskar and playing in Mumbai. When I was dropped, selector Ravindra Chadha told me Bedi didn’t want to pick me.”
Yograj mentioned that his bitterness persisted over the years, despite a brief exchange with Kapil during India’s 2011 World Cup victory.
After Yuvraj Singh’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Tournament award, Yograj sent Kapil a message referencing Yuvraj’s achievements. According to Yograj:
“Kapil cried when India won the World Cup in 2011. I sent him a clipping saying my son outperformed you. Kapil replied, saying we’d be brothers in the next life and would be born from the same mother. But the vengeance still lingers.”
In a separate and highly controversial remark during the interview, Yograj expressed misogynistic views, stating, “Never give power to women. Love, respect, and honor them, but never power. They will destroy everything if given power. I’ve seen women hoard everything for themselves.”
These remarks, alongside his startling revelations, have sparked widespread criticism and debate, adding another chapter to Yograj’s history of contentious public statements.
