Star batter Virat Kohli has finally returned to domestic cricket after a 12-year hiatus, sending the crowd at Arun Jaitley Stadium into a frenzy as they watched their favorite cricketing icon in action during the ongoing Ranji Trophy fixture.
Known for his love of food, Kohli made a special lunch request during the Day 1 break of Delhi’s Round 7 Ranji Trophy clash against Railways.
The Delhi-born cricketer specifically asked for Chilli Paneer, placing his request directly with the operator at the DDCA-run canteen inside the stadium.
Sanjay Jha, the canteen manager, shared the anecdote in an interview, recalling his long association with Kohli.
“I have been running this canteen for 25 years and have known Virat since his childhood. He used to eat from here when he started his career. Despite his success, he remains humble, treating us and the waiters just like any ordinary person,” Jha revealed.
Jha also revealed that Kohli’s food preferences have evolved over time.
“Earlier, Chilli Chicken was his favorite. He not only enjoyed it himself but also recommended it to his teammates. Now, he prefers Chole Bhature or Kadhi Chawal. Once, I even offered to order food from outside, but he refused, saying he wanted to eat from our canteen itself,” he added.
