The South African women’s cricket team entered the 2024 T20 World Cup wearing their hearts on their collars—literally.
To honor the role of their loved ones in their journey, Cricket South Africa allowed players to emboss five names of their closest family and friends on the collars of their new World Cup jerseys.
South Africa, yet to win a T20 World Cup, reached the final of the previous edition, where they were defeated by Australia.
This new jersey carries special meaning not only for the team but also for their fans, with the slogan: “Always Rising – For Me, For Her, For Them, For All, For South Africa, For The Proteas.”
“As the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup 2024 kicks off in the UAE, the Proteas Women are staying connected to their fans with a heartfelt message,” CSA tweeted. “The players will wear customized jerseys with names of family members and close friends embroidered on them, a constant reminder of home during the heat of competition.”
South Africa is placed in Group B alongside England, Scotland, Bangladesh, and the West Indies, and faced the West Indies in their tournament opener on October 4 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
