Renowned musical band Coldplay, led by Chris Martin, has been captivating fans worldwide on their tour. Their Mumbai concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai became an unexpected treat for cricket enthusiasts.
While performing one of his final songs, Martin delighted the crowd by mentioning India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Martin joked about wrapping up the concert because Bumrah was backstage and eager to play. Although fans anticipated Bumrah’s surprise appearance on stage, it didn’t happen.
Nevertheless, the mention of the cricketer’s name drew thunderous applause, and a clip of the moment has since gone viral on social media.
“Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage. He says he needs to bowl at me now,” Martin quipped, sparking cheers from the audience.
Jasprit Bumrah has been in impressive form despite grappling with injury issues. After a lengthy recovery period, the pacer returned to action but faced another setback during the Sydney Test, leaving the field midway through Australia’s first innings due to back spasms. He didn’t bowl in the second innings, raising concerns over his fitness.
Despite his recurring injuries, Bumrah has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar weighed in on Bumrah’s situation, urging trust in the player’s judgment.
“You can’t force Bumrah to prove his fitness. He is at his peak, and sometimes you have to trust a player’s word. Bumrah deserves to walk into the playing XI as soon as he’s fit. I don’t think he needs to play warm-up matches before the Test series in England,” Bangar said.
As fans celebrate Chris Martin’s nod to Bumrah, the cricketing world watches closely, hoping the star pacer overcomes his injury concerns to shine in the Champions Trophy.
