Arshdeep Singh became India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is during the first match of the five-game series against England at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Starting the game with 95 wickets, Arshdeep surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal’s tally of 96 after striking twice in his first two overs.
The left-arm pacer wasted no time making an impact. He showcased impeccable accuracy and swing in his opening over, further solidifying his dominance in the powerplay phase.
Since his debut, Arshdeep has taken more wickets in the first six overs (42 in 60 innings) than any other bowler.
His third delivery of the match forced an awkward leading edge from Phil Salt, comfortably caught by Sanju Samson. In his next over, Arshdeep dismissed Ben Duckett, officially claiming the top spot on India’s T20I wicket-taking chart.
Despite losing their openers early, England managed a steady start, reaching 61 after seven overs. However, Varun Chakravarthy turned the game in India’s favor with a brilliant spell.
He bowled Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone within three deliveries, the latter falling to an exceptional delivery.
At the halfway mark, England were reeling at 74/4, with India firmly in control. Arshdeep’s brilliance and Chakravarthy’s pivotal spell put the hosts on top in the series opener.
