Legendary South African and RCB batsman AB de Villiers believes Rohit Sharma will remain with Mumbai Indians (MI) for IPL 2025 and beyond. In a recent Q&A on his YouTube channel, de Villiers dismissed the possibility of Rohit switching to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), saying, “I almost laughed at the Rohit comment.
That would be huge, even bigger than Hardik Pandya’s move. But I don’t see MI letting Rohit go. I’d give it a zero or 0.1 percent chance.”
Rumors of Rohit leaving MI began after he was replaced by Hardik Pandya, who was traded from Gujarat Titans (GT) to lead MI.
Although Pandya had a strong run with GT, his MI stint in 2024 ended with the team at the bottom of the table, leading some fans to call for Rohit’s return as captain.
Reports have suggested that Lucknow Super Giants may be interested in Rohit, with KL Rahul potentially moving to RCB as their captain, replacing Faf du Plessis due to age concerns.
However, de Villiers defended Faf’s leadership, stating, “Age is just a number, guys. I don’t see why him turning 40 would be an issue. He’s been exceptional, and I believe Virat will back him with all his experience for IPL 2025.”
